Growth in Action

Growing Through Play and Participation

Our in-house extra mural programme offers learners the chance to explore new skills, build confidence, and enjoy teamwork — all within the school day and guided by our own dedicated teachers.

Each Friday morning, learners from Grades 1 to 3 participate in athletics activities, including running, sprinting, and relay races. These sessions help build endurance, coordination, and excitement around physical activity. Grade R learners continue with their daily programme and do not take part just yet.

The highlight of the term is our Interhouse Athletics Day, which takes place in the first week of Term 2. It’s a fun and energetic event that gives learners the chance to showcase their skills and teamwork. Photos from the day will be shared early in Term 2.

During Term 2, the focus shifts to developing ball skills. Each Grade 1 to 3 class enjoys a dedicated 20-minute time slot where teachers guide them through activities like throwing, catching, kicking, and dribbling. These sessions are designed to build confidence and improve coordination.

More than just physical development, these activities promote social interaction and teamwork, while also introducing learners to friendly competition. It’s a lively, structured way to enjoy movement and grow together as a group.

Once a week in Term 3, learners take part in mini soccer and mini netball sessions. Teachers introduce basic skills such as passing, shooting, dribbling, and team play in a fun, supportive environment. The emphasis is on participation, enjoyment, and learning through movement.

These sessions help learners develop agility, coordination, and ball control — but more importantly, they get to experience how fun it is to play and learn together. It’s a great opportunity to build sportsmanship and confidence.

Term 4 brings a shift in focus from sports to language and performance. One of the highlights is our Spelling Bee, where learners participate in a friendly competition, spelling words out loud. It’s a great way to sharpen listening and memory skills in a fun, interactive format.

In addition to the Spelling Bee, learners also take part in poetry and drama. They recite short poems using rhythm and rhyme, and explore basic performance through drama activities. These experiences support language development, creativity, and self-expression in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
